What are projector headlights? What do they do?
Projector Headlights have become the preferred choice for lighting over the past 20 years or so. This style of headlight features a projector unit with its own domed lens behind the main outer headlight lens.
This design "projects" lightfurther than a typical halogen reflector. A block-off plate inside the projector between the projector lens and bulb obstructs part of thelight, creating a "cut-off" line where lightstops. This allows for the use of high output headlights like HID systems without blinding other drivers in oncoming traffic.
What are HID headlights? What do they do?
High Intensity Discharge, or HID headlights are totally different from incandescent bulbs in both design and operation. Rather than run electricity through a filament, the HID system uses a glass bulb filled with metal halide gas. The gaseous metal is extremely conductive and generates intense, bright light when illuminated by an arc of electricity. The HID system consists of two components: bulb and ballast. Without one, the other will not work - which can sometimes make troubleshooting a failure tricky. In recent years, aftermarket HID conversion kits have become popular, which convert cars with halogen headlights over to HID. The problem with these conversions is that these do not change the reflector housings. The reflectors were designed to reflect light being generated from different point in the length of the bulb, causing HID light output to "scatter" and cause "glare", blinding oncoming traffic. It's not just rude, it's dangerous.
Can I put HIDs in aftermarket projectors?
YES! Using an HID bulb in an aftermarket projector typically works just fine, however this may not technically be legal in all areas. Simply replace the Be sure to check local regulations to ensure you are compliant with any relevant laws.
What is Color Temperature? What is the best HID color temperature for my Audi?
Lightoutput for HID headlamps is highest between 3400k (more output) and about 6500k (less output) - the higher the number for the color temperature, the more "purple" thelight will appear to be and there is little actual light. 12,000K HIDs are still putting outlight- but the light it is generatingis outside of the spectrum of light types visible to human eyes. Don't be "that guy" with dim, purple HIDs. Most manufacturers typically use 3400k-4300k bulbs for their own HIDs, as this temperature has the greatest lumen output, meaning thebest HID color temperature is 4300k.
What are LED TailLights?
LED Tai lLightshave really exploded in popularity over the past decade, thanks in part to Audi's dedication to LED lighting technologies. LED Tail Lightsreplace one or more of the taillightfunctions withLightEmitting Diodes. LED TailLightslight more brightly, illuminate more quickly and offer a much "crisper" look than incandescent brake lamps. That fast response time also creates an extra margin of safety for the car behind you to see you are braking and stop. LED Taillightsare a great way to give your older Audi a botox injection, so to speak, and take a few years off its appearance.
What are the benefits of LED bulbs?
Today's LED replacement-typelightbulbs are bright, many feature CREE technology. 1-watt or higher LED bulbs are often very bright and producelightin specific colors - super clean white, intense blue, amber, red and many other colors. This flexibility in coloration makes LEDs a perfect choice for accentlightslike your interior or license plate lights. LED bulbs also offer a much longer service life than conventional bulbs, lasting 10,000hrs or more.
