Why Forgestar wheels are better than cast wheels
- Custom Offsets - Forgestar
wheels can be made in virtually any offset, whereas standard
cast wheels come in a set offset. This allows you to dial in
exactly how you want your wheels to sit (we can help you select the
offset you need for the look your looking for). Having custom
offsets allows for fitment of wider wheels
in stock suspension and lowered vehicles. Forgestar wheels are
designed
specifically for your car and it's suspension setup,
where cast wheels are designed for everyone and typically do not
take in to account lowered suspension setups.
-
Weight - Forgestar
wheels are also much lighter than cast wheels, when compared to a
cast wheel of the same size one will save anywhere from 4-8 Lbs per
wheel. Reducing unsprung
weight (weight that is not supported by the car's suspension, i.e
wheels, tires, brake rotors, and brake calipers) is one of the
easiest ways to improve your car's
handling, braking, and
acceleration. As a general estimate 1 pound of unsprung
weight is equal to 10 pounds of static weight. (weight that is
supported by the vehicle's suspension).
- Strength - Forging a wheel
produces the strongest and most durable wheel possible. The
Forgestar F14F is considerably stronger than any cast wheels which are typically
around 1000-1200 lbs. per wheel.
- Range of Sizes - Forgestar
wheels are available in a multitude of sizes, allowing you to decide
exactly what diameter and width you want to run on your vehicle,
rather being forced to run a set staggered size with cast wheels (As
cast wheels usually are only available with one set front wheel
width, and one rear wheel width).

Why it is not a good
idea to buy wheel and
tire packages from ANY online retailer:
1. Often our price on tires is higher than
what you will find at a local shop, especially right now with all of the
shops running promotions in these market conditions.
2. We do not offer road hazard protection
against nails, leaks, etc like a local shop does (often free of charge)
3. It adds at least 1-1.5 weeks to the
processing time of your order (we stock wheels, we do not stock tires)
4. We charge for mounting and balancing,
some local shops will not charge you
5. If you get tires from a local shop,
they will usually install the wheels/tires onto your car for little to
no cost.
6. Wheel and tire mounting and balancing
is a complicated process. Putting rubber and metal together into a
perfect circle is a tough challenge, no matter how advanced the
equipment being used. When you order a wheel and tire package via mail
order, there is a decent chance that when you get it something will be
wrong. A number of problems can occur: you may have a slight vibration
at cruising speed on the highway, a tire could be leaking air, there is
a wobble at low speed, etc. All of these issues are nearly impossible to
diagnose over the phone or e-mail. They are much easier to diagnose and
much cheaper to fix if you can just take your car into a local tire shop
to have the problem fixed where you originally bought the tires and had
them mounted and balanced. No costs for return shipping! No wait time
for it to be diagnosed! No arguing about what is defective… the car, the
wheels, or the tires?
We have over 5 years experience of doing
wheels and tires. From our personal experience and with market
conditions right now, it just makes the most sense for our customers to
buy tires at a local shop. If you would like a wheel and tire package
from us, we absolutely will do it for you and our price will still be
competitive. You may call us at 714-582-3330 to discuss tire packages.
Please do not e-mail/call us for a quote on tires. |

The
process of forging a wheel uses intense heat and pressure to transform a
solid billet of alloy material into the final shape of a wheel. Forged
aluminum is about 300 percent stronger versus cast aluminum, yet less
material is needed to produce the same "cast alloy wheel", which results
in a lighter and stronger wheel as a result of the forging process. In
two-piece construction, a center is forged and welded into a spun outer
barrel. This allows forged wheels to be much more customizable when
compared to a cast wheel, and allows for greater widths and diameters.
A forged aluminum wheel has a
higher specific strength as well as higher toughness (ability to absorb energy)
in comparison to a cast wheel. This allows an engineer to design a wheel that is
lighter, stiffer and less susceptible to cracking under impact and with better
fatigue properties not possible with cast wheels.
