I have always been a car enthusiast but because of my work I have not had the time to actually indulge in my passion, as I am always on the road. I had two concepts in mind either have a custom built Pro Street 37 Ford 3-Window Coupe or possibly look for 69 Challenger to restore. Then about 10 years ago while passing some time waiting for a meeting I walked onto a BMW dealership in Burnaby British Columbia to have a look around, well I thought I had died and gone to heaven, I liked all of them, Z3 to 7 series it didn't matter I just wanted a Bimmer! The one big problem at that time they were out of my price range as I had just bought my second home so the dream would be put on hold…for now.

Fast forward to 2005 I was preparing to start a construction project in Kelowna BC and a few blocks from the site they were building a new BMW dealership I knew I was in trouble or perhaps lucky. In 2006 I walked into the dealership and sat in 2006 M Roadster and bought it without so much as taking it out for a test drive. Because of our winters here the car was only driven between March and October spending the rest of the year in a heated garage, I enjoyed the car but something was missing. In April of 2008 I stopped in the dealership to speak with the sales staff when I saw a new Jerez Black 2008 M3 E92 sitting on the lot, the only one. I took the car for a test drive and was so impressed I knew it was just a matter of time before I had one. 2 months later I was driving it off the lot after trading in the M Roadster. I parked the car in October then as winter settled in I thought that maybe some new BMW rims would look nice on the car so I got on the internet and started looking around at some different rims, but even deeper in my mind was an image of a supercharged M3 and that is when the real journey began.

I found a website for Wheels Performance of Miami and contacted Rick there. I decided to go with the 360 Forged Sportline Mesh 8 in 20x9 and 20x10.5 they came to me covered in 245/30/20 and 295/25/20 Michelin PS2’s, unfortunately the rims took a while to get from a projected 4 – 6 weeks delivery to 4 months then they did not fit properly, but 2 months later and some grief I had a great looking set of rims for the car. Even though I had some issues with 360 Forged the end product was great. Rick at Wheels Performance was great I cannot say enough about him and his dedication to helping his customers.

With the thought of adding more power to the car I started thinking about E92 brakes and E92 suspension as well, that was when I first came into contact with Ron Hay at ModBargains. After some phone calls and exchanging a lot of emails and Ron’s suggestions, by March of 2009 I was waiting for delivery of:

By March of 2009 all the parts had been shipped and received at the BMW dealership where I bought the car, next their technician Matt put it all together for me, then to the body shop where the Hamann pieces were added.

Thru this process Ron Hay had been keeping me updated on Active Autowerke’s prototype supercharger system for the car which was still in the works and some time off yet. Then in May of 2009 Ron informed me that Active Autowerke was ready to do 4 cars and asked how quickly could I get my car to them. I then made arrangements with an auto carrier to take the car to Miami so in early June I drove the car to Spokane Washington where I met the car carrier on the side of the interstate loaded it into the enclosed 6 car trailer and watched it disappear wondering when I would see it again. Six weeks later I was pulling into a Wall-Mart parking lot in Colville Washington and there it was, low to the ground and looking very badass!

It is difficult to find the correct adjectives to describe how well it handles, the power and everything else. I do know people will come over and admire the car ask permission to take photos and just stand there smiling, you have to remember there are not many M3’s around here never mind one that has had an additional $60,000 in modifications. For me this whole process involved a lot of trust with people I had only talked to on the phone or by email, people that are thousands of miles from where I live, and I can say I have not had a better experience. There is a lot of Ron Hay in this car he was instrumental in the end product and I will always be very appreciative for his help and guidance.
I know if I see a BMW I like next summer at my BMW dealership I will not been trading in my Jerez Black M3.
