How Brian Got Started

Growing up as a kid I always wanted a BMW E46 M3. I even had M3 parts in my basement sitting there when I wasn't even close to owning one. Before my E46 M3 days, I drove a Ford Escort and worked part time at CVS. As time went by I pursued my career in the government and was able to afford one. It took 6 months to find the perfect one. A 2004 E46 M3 Titanium Grey Metallic with a imola red leather interior shipped from BMW of Honolulu. It was in perfect condition, bone stock.

During those 6 months of searching I was also mapping out how I wanted to build my M3. I wanted it to be clean but aggressive, classy but rugged, fast but also a sleeper, unique not trendy, and an eye pleaser to both the ladies and the gents. There are lots of mods on the car that are unique that you'd never find on another BMW. Some of the parts are even discontinued, which I prefer. Basically over the next two years of modding all of my income went to modding the car; and it was well worth it. I had to balance out aggressive exterior mods to match performance modifications.

My first modifications were mere accents like smoking out the lights, and upgrading the angel eyes. I also lowered the car and installed matte black kidney grills and side grilles. Next I wanted to up the performance output a little. I ordered JVT headers which I bored out, ceramic coated, and heat wrapped. Following the headers I ordered a Custom Performance Rasp Terminator with 400cell high flow cats. For a more raw sound I installed a Meistershaft unresonated section 2 x-pipe and a Version 2 Agency Power Titanium Tip Exhaust System.

To bring the performance mods together I installed a Highline Tuning CAI and Shark Injector Racing Software. This setup shaved off quite a bit of weight and added noticeable power gains. Now the exterior modifications are what really set the car off. Carbon fiber, and lots of it. I wanted the hood, front lip, sideskirts, trunk, and rear diffuser to be in carbon fiber. After each piece was fitted and installed I had them painted. Now the car was looking pretty aggressive at this point but it was only a tad bit quicker than a stock M3. That's when I read about Nitrous Oxide. A select few members run nitrous on the forums that not only walk FI M3's they pull bus lengths. I went with a 125 wet shot NX kit and all proper safety equipment from Dynotunenitrous. This put me at where I wanted to be; fast but also a sleeper.

The only thing left to mod was the interior. I had my trim custom wrapped in carbon fiber fabric and removed the rear seats and trunk lining for weight savings. The stock seats are pretty hefty so I installed NRG carbon fiber bucket seats that are only a fraction of the weight. Seeing how empty the cabin looked after I decided to bolt in a 4 point AutoPower roll bar which I mounted my GoPro HD camera to. There were also a lot of little accents I installed in the interior like; M5 SMG shift knob, AC Schnitzer pedals, 5 panel rear view mirror, Horse Power Freaks Paddle Shifters, and a very much needed radar detector.

At this point the car was getting a lot of attention at shows, and blogs begged for features but I was not satisfied until I mounted the perfect wheel. I wanted a wheel that was unique and one the world has never seen on a BMW before. That's why I went with fully chrome dipped Rotiform SJC's in 19's. Currently the only set mounted on a BMW these wheels are super lightweight, very aggressive, 3 piece fully customizable, and flowed very nicely with my setup. The car was complete at this point. If I had any future plans on the car I would upgrade the stereo with a in-dash DVD Nav and a Supercharger to go with my nitrous!
