Why It Works
AWE Tuning used a sophisticated Computer Aided Design software to
develop an intercooler with end tanks and a core that is
significantly larger than the stock Audi B8 A4 front mount intercooler.
This end tank and core combination allows for maximum heat dissipation,
which
decreases the intake air temperatures by 30%
over the stock A4 intercooler.
The reduction in intake air temperature
results in increases of 21 HP and 20 lb/ft
torque to the crank. Also, the ability to
use
factory hoses and clamps helps keep the cost down for you. AWE
Tuning has tested and developed their front mount intercooler through
constant testing, and went through 14 different revisions to ensure that
you are receiving the best possible product for your Audi B8 A4.
AWE Tuning
End Tank Design vs. Stock
The AWE Tuning Front Mount Intercooler utilizes a different designed end
tank compared to the stock and other typical box-styled end tanks. The
box styled end tanks on the stock intercooler creates a significant
amount of air turbulence which results in poor cooling and air flow to
the core.
The end tank design of the AWE Tuning Front Mount Intercooler
reduces the air turbulence going to the core and keeps the pressure drop
to a minimum. The AWE Tuning designed end tank also
allows for a larger intercooler core which helps
provide a 45 degree F drop in temperature in comparison to the stock
intercooler.

Performance
Specs
All the data AWE Tuning has collected was on their Mustang MD-AWD-500-SE
AWD dynamometer utilizing the dyno's built-in data acquisition as well
as a portable, lab grade datalogger. Back to back runs were made while
testing the stock and AWE Tuning intercoolers to show consistent power
increase and temperature decreases. When combined with a chip upgrade,
the stock turbo runs at near-capacity and produces significantly more
heat than at stock levels. The AWE Tuning Front Mount Intercooler for
the Audi B6 A4 produces more power and less heat as shown in the dyno
test reports.
 
Installation
The AWE Tuning B8 A4
Intercooler is a medium - advanced installation. Basic hand tools and
some modification to OEM parts are required.
